Register Searches
Searching registers can be very time consuming even if names and approximate dates are known. For any search of a register held by the Parish Church a charge will be made; this fee is as follows: –
For the first hour – £36.00
For subsequent hours – £36.00 per hour or any part of subsequent hours.
Points to note:
Registers are often lodged with a Local Archive as churches often lack space or facilities to keep these documents dry and free from damp.
Searching Churchyards
For the first hour – £36.00
For subsequent hours – £36.00 per hour or any part of subsequent hours
Points to note:
The churchyard you may want to have searched could be many hundreds of years old and even as late as 1950, marking a grave could be outside the affordability of many households particularly where more permanent monuments like headstones or plaques are involved. Consequently, wooden crosses were the most common markers of family graves.
Naturally, these will only last a certain number of years after which the grave can prove difficult to find, so please be aware of this before you consider ordering a local search by a church officer.
We are always happy to help where we can, so feel free to make contact with us via our webform on our contact page and give us as much information as you can before we start a search. It can save you money.
